One of the all-time adult westerns of it's fourth dimension!

Verified purchase

I have just finished watching the offset 6 years of Gunsmoke, from the pilot and kickoff episode, through episode number 173. It'south kind of nice to be able to showtime at the kickoff and follow information technology through, at least I think they are in that order. Accept notice of a couple of things nigh Kitty: She doesn't have a mole on her face until episode five, and no explanation as to why she all of the sudden had one. Also, in the pilot she is not the Kitty we all know. She seems to be very timid and non certain of herself, and seems like an extra instead of a main character. The pilot show is really listed at the end of season six, and is numbered every bit episode #173, I'thousand non sure why?

There is one thing you find pretty clearly when watching episodes one right after some other, just probably didn't discover when they were new. Chester seems to be the only one that breaks the news to Align Dillon when a major trouble arises, and I got a piffling tired of seeing him running into the Long Branch, or the Marshal'south office with the news. And since he is always with Align Dillon, I'm surprised that he never carries a pistol with him, except for the one fourth dimension he tried on Matt'due south holster and pretended to be a fast draw.

Later on seeing the first of the show nearly 100 times I also noticed that in the opening scene Marshal Dillon actually draws his gun first before the outlaw, I'm not certain that is a flaw in the filming or intentional, in any instance yous don't observe information technology unless you freeze frame the draw. If you lot look at the starting time picture beneath you will see the Marshal'due south mitt grabbing for his gun before the bad guy fifty-fifty moves.

I similar Gunsmoke very much, it's a lot meliorate than a lot of other westerns I have seen. Then overall I volition give it 5 stars or a grade of A+.

Love information technology!

Verified purchase

My father and I used to watch Gunsmoke, which was on for many, many years, a testimony to its popularity. Information technology was mostly serious western simply many humorous episodes. Jim Arness (brother of Peter Graves) was Marshall Dillon, an easy-going, likable large guy only also tough. Other characters included "Doc", deputy Chester Good (Dennis Weaver, later McCloud, etc.), and the owner of the saloon and discreetly-questionable lady Miss Kitty, played by the very attractive Amanda Blake. The characters all became familiar "family", and the episodes ranged from gritty to funny, violent to grapheme lessons. It is, of grade, an old series and one will pick upwards on that, information technology tin can be corny or past today'south standards a bit amateurish at times, just most of the fourth dimension information technology holds upwards very well and it's fun to watch. I have not gotten through all the episodes withal, merely the ones I accept are first-class, and of skilful audio and video quality. Yous will see actors who later went on to become starts in their own correct, very interesting trips down Memory Lane.

All in all, a consistent, pretty authentic, and definitely fun bear witness, any of the diverse seasons or collections should be slap-up, but I chose this one to get a good cantankerous-section without buying all of them and triggering a divorce!

Highly recommended series, and this drove is fantabulous.

Not bad!

Verified purchase

One of the best westsern on television receiver. Information technology's timeless and just as good now every bit I retrieve starting time run. In that location are and then many episodes I sit at night watching a group at a time. Loving Roy Rogers movies every bit a child I crossed over to this series easily in the 1950'due south. Ane thing about the former w...they had good laws simply justice was swift. There's alot of shootin' and tootin' but no long trials or appeals court...the bad guy usually gets i or ii in the gut and a shovel gets him to boot hill. One of my kickoff husband's ancestors was hanged for stealing a equus caballus..after that they all moved to Brooklyn. Swell serial.

Having fun and laughter with Gunsmoke

Verified purchase

Having seen only two episodes and then far makes me so happy that I purchased the {Directors Collection}
with episodes such as " Cotters Girl " from 1963.
Hearing the diector and the actress who played Cotters daughter speaking about their obvious
enjoyment with that episode is wonderful for the viewer , the lunch scene that took so long to
film because of the laughter - the scene was non completed until the following 24-hour interval.
And the quality is so well washed , this will exist a real stand out in my drove.
I have at present ordered the 50th anniversery collection.
" Cotters Girl" had a female person writer, the manager of this episode spoke with adoration for this
writer and as he had directed 90 episodes of Gunsmoke over the years , he was aware when the
gold shone through. Other directors prefer a " shoot em upward script" and would stay away from
one such as this, however it is proficient to encounter the actors having fun on the task.
My 1 wish is that some bloopers were saved from "Cotters Girl".

Gunsmoke

Verified purchase

For all y'all youngsters out there Gunsmoke started in Sep 1955 and continued for xx yrs until Mar 1975 Information technology was in commencement identify for much of that time and outlasted all other westerns. The indoor action is in the Long Branch Saloon owned by Kitty (Amanda Blake)Although nigh action takes place outdoors.James Arness was Align Dillon with Milburn Stone every bit the Doctor and Dennis Weaver as Chester,Dillons side kicking. It was a well put together series and believable.Like no shooting 21 shots out of a sixshooter without reloading or shooting the gun out of the baddies hand at total gallop. If yous like westerns you will get along with this i nicely.

GUNSMOKE THE DIRECTORS COLLECTION

Verified buy

Information technology was very difficult to non start viewing this gear up as soon every bit it arrived merely alas as a Christmas nowadays I held off until 25 DEC. Every bit a hardcore Gunsmoke fanatic ,having seen the first Gunsmoke episode as a 8 year onetime boy in 1955, it is always swell to come across my favorite western uncut and restored. As with the original 50th Anniversary set there is an excellent rest of episodes.

In that location are non as many extras on this set. The theme of the Directors collection allowed me to hear for the starting time time Peter Graves (Jim Arness's blood brother) talk virtually their experiences. Other than Jim's book at that place is most no info regarding them together. I was disappointed in the radio episodes, the quality was terrible. I am a collector and I know that many of the radio episodes be in pristine condition. I'chiliad afraid that some viewers will mayhap think that all of the radio episodes only be in the status of those on the DVD.

I would really like to see the black and white hour long episodes featured more than on the next set because they are the ones that get very little to no cable airtime.

This set up is a must take for the serious Gunsmoke collector, the opening gives a adieu to Dennis Weaver and it is sad that about everyone associated with the series is gone.

THE All-time! The first "adult western"

Verified purchase

THE BEST! The first "adult western". Not ever plot driven, often focused on the toughness of that time and people. Sometimes the stories simply end because at that place is no more to be done, without everything being resolved or tied upward neatly, like life.
